About the Department

About Our Department

The Department of Environmental Studies and Resources Development supports our university niche of excelling in environmental conservation and renewable energy studies. Our aim is to train and create capacity for sustainable environmental technologies while supporting prudent management of natural resources. We train competent scientists who understand ecology and skilled natural resource managers who are conscious of pursuing development initiatives within the existing carrying capacities. With the looming threat of climate change, uncontrolled industrialization, high pollution levels and declining resources there are increased dangers posed to ecological balance. The department addresses this through training future conservationists, environmental managers and consultants. Our graduate programs also train independent research scientists and educationists who can mentor young researchers in various universities while guiding national environmental policy directions. This department is committed in pursuing basic and applied research centered on environment development, hazard preparedness, pollution management, Human Wildlife Conflict mitigation, alternative tourism development and sustainable hospitality business management in conservation areas.
